Adding a star to stuff you plan to get back to reading (honestly!) can lead to an intimidating backlog of no-longer-helpful items. Use NetNewsWire for Mac to wipe away all your stars at once, or warm up your fingers for a rapid-fire keyboard cleansing.
"Starry-Eyed" asks our Australian counterpart blog about how to manage a big, unwieldy list of starred items. The somewhat resigned answer from Angus is to load up your items, then pound through a keyboard shortcut repeatedly:

- Type g then s to go to your starred items.
- Hit space to select the first item.
- Hit s to remove the star. (The s shortcut toggles the starred state on and off.)
- Hit j to go to the next item in the list.
- Repeat steps three and four until the list is empty. (If you want to keep something, just skip hitting s for that item.)
Nick Chaplin in the post's comments suggests using NetNewsWire for Mac to cancel out your Starred items in one fell swoop:
Click on Flagged Item (Stared items from google reader)
Command+A (Select All)
Shift+Command+L (News > Mark > As Unflagged)Refresh All
Done.
