Use a Landing Strip to Keep Clutter from Invading Your Home

Traditionally the argument for a "landing strip", a place to dump your stuff when you come in the door, is for the benefits of having your stuff in one spot. Landing strips are also invaluable for purging clutter upon arriving home.

Normally when you hear about landing strips you're hearing about a spot people made to throw their keys and briefcase when they came home. The space simply serves as a literal landing spot for their junk. In the video above Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan, as part of Apartment Therapy's The 20/20 Cure series, demonstrates the benefit of using your landing strip for more than just dumping your stuff, but instead to sort and purge.

We come home with all sorts of stuff we don't necessarily want to spread out all over the house in a cluttered fashion. Stuff that needs to be immediately trashed or recycled, stuff that has a specific location (like change in a change jar and cellphones in their charging cradles), and stuff we want to set aside until we leave the house again.
