Chrome only: Google recently added on-demand script blocking to its browser's capabilities, and NotScripts is the extension that puts that blocking in your hands. In other words, it's an early Chrome equivalent of NoScript for Firefox.
NotScripts is still a bit rough around the edges, for sure. To use it securely, you'll need to edit a password file deep in your system and provide a key at least 20 characters in length, so as to prevent your whitelist from leaking. Once you're done there, you can add sites to the NotScripts whitelist to allow them to do their thing. Otherwise, NotScripts blocks click trackers, ad delivery services, and other scripts from running on sites you don't know that well. You can click NotScripts' address bar icon to temporarily enable individual scripts, or all the scripts on a site temporarily.
NotScripts is a free download and requires Google Chrome. We'd make a gentle request that you add lifehacker.com to your whitelist, so as to help keep the hamsters fed.
