Make Your Own Food Dehydrator Out of a Mini Fridge

While you can always use your car as a food dehydrator, if you'd like to keep your car from smelling like figs, you can make your own out of just a mini fridge and a few repurposed appliances.

These particular instructions used a lot of parts the author found at a dump, but you can probably still get them for pretty cheap if you don't feel like dumpster diving for a food-related appliance. It mainly consists of the base of an old crock pot, and old computer fan, a thermostat assembly, and some miscellaneous items like shelving, wire, and aluminum foil. Many of his parts actually came from an old stove, so if you're thinking about buying some new appliances, this is a great way to repurpose a few of your old ones.

While this version certainly doesn't look pretty (which makes sense, since all the parts are from the city dump), it's pretty involved—from the on/off switch with an indicator light to the high number of shelves, it's a pretty full-featured dehydrator.
