iOS/Android: The IRS's official mobile app, IRS2Go, tracks your return once you've submitted it to the IRS and offers tax tips to help you out before you've filed.
It's tax season, and by now you've started receiving your W2s and other income statements. All you have to do now is file. The IRS2Go app is primarily designed to give you quick access to your refund status (if you're expecting one) and a way to make sure your return has been accepted by the IRS once you've filed and submitted it. You log in using your social security number and the amount you anticipate receiving in the form of a tax refund, and the app encrypts your SSN before sending it to the IRS to dig up your return's status. The app also lets you subscribe to daily emailed tax tips and updates from the IRS (in the off chance you want that).
The app only really allows you to track the status of your tax return, and it's a shame there's no other way to log in other than your SSN, but the other features are useful if you haven't filed yet or you're just itching for email from the IRS. Regardless, it's good to see the IRS making the move to mobile, and it's nice for those of us eager for a juicy return. The iOS version of the app is available in the iTunes App Store, and the Android app is available in the Android App Market (see QR code).
