During these cold winter months, a lot of folks use things like Duraflame logs for quick and easy fires, but if you'd like to save some money, you can make your own quick-start fire logs out of newspaper.
To make your logs, you'll need some newspapers, a bucket, a rubber mallet and a metal pipe or dowel. The process takes a few days, so you'll definitely need to think ahead if you want to use them. First, you'll need to soak the newspapers for about two days, then mash them down with your mallet. Then, roll them up in your dowel and squeeze out the water. Once it's dried (it'll take a few days), you'll have a hard log with which you can light an easy fire. Hit the link for the full instructions, and check out the video above for a demonstration.
