If you've ever wondered how to digitize your book collection, this how to video from YouTube user Carl Youngblood shows how he scanned in one technical book on LaTeX.
Of course, using his method involves cutting off the spine with a circular saw and then scanning it in with a Fujitsu ScanSnap, effectively destroying your book.
If you want to scan in a book without the use of power tools, you might also want to check out scanning it in by creating a frame and using an old digital camera. A third (and the most expensive option) is to create your own DIY book scanner. The design is completely GPLed and the plans are available to cut your own parts, along with assembly instructions.
Any way you slice it, digitizing a book will take some time and work but is worth it if you want to make it available on your iPad, Kindle or other digital book format.
