@telepheedian: Interesting, my Eee logo isn't "under" the gloss, it's recessed. Are you using steel wool or the scotch brite pad? Perhaps use a larger pad so you can use your whole hand for pressure? Read more

@Dr_Watson: Hmmm I don't know. I have a feeling that if that were to occur it would take much longer than the useful life of the machine. Read more

@chillip: I haven't done it yet (on the inside) because I want to take the time to mask off the screen and keyboard to be extra cautious... I don't see why it would be a bad idea. The case actually feels awesome where I buffed it. Before it had this annoying tacky feel because the surface was so polished it Read more

@karan1003: It would work fine on metal. I use those same scotch brite pads to buff out my stainless steel sink all the time. If I had a phone with a metal back that was bugging me I'd totally give it a brushed metal look. Read more

@telepheedian: Yeah that's all it took. I used a 4"x5" pad and buffed the crap out of it. I ended up doing it again this afternoon with bigger circles. It took about 2 minutes of circular buffing and another 2 minutes or so of careful little circles on the edge of the lid.... but now it's a nice matte finish with a swirl pattern much like a Read more

@amaraklov: The "Magic Eraser" is simply a block of melamine foam. Melamine foam has a structure similar to extremely fine steel wool or fiberglass. When you "erase" stuff with the magic eraser you're essentially micro-sanding it. Everything looks so damn clean when you use it because you're rubbing the surface of it Read more

@twkonefal: They are melamine foam =) Don't be tricked into paying premium prices when the cheap off brands are just as good. Read more

@telepheedian: I'm tempted to follow in your foot steps... I have an Eee 1000 too and the piano black finish is a magnet for fingerprints and smudges. I'm not particularly fond of it. Read more

@telepheedian: If you're going to attempt it, I would actually suggest 000# grade steel wool. The magic eraser will dull a matte surface but trust me when I say it takes an enormous amount of elbow grease (and water!) near your laptop. Read more

@RenRen: It had no problem detecting my HTC Hero when it plugged in and in Disk Mode.
